Mealtimes at Happy Feet

Good food. Happy mealtimes.
Mealtimes are a chance to explore new tastes, build independence and enjoy eating together. Please talk to our team about your child’s routine and dietary needs.
OUR MENUS
Our current menu downloads will be added here. Until they are uploaded, please ask the nursery for the latest menu and allergen information. Menus may change; always check individual dietary arrangements with our team.
HEALTHY EATING: GOVERNMENT GUIDANCE
For children aged 1–5, the Department for Education recommends variety across four main food groups: vegetables and fruit; starchy foods such as potatoes, bread, rice and pasta; dairy or suitable alternatives; and protein foods such as beans, pulses, fish, eggs and meat. Portions should suit the child’s size and appetite.
Offer fresh water and plain milk as age-appropriate drinks. Sugary drinks, juice and smoothies are not recommended in early years settings. Limit foods high in salt, sugar and saturated fat. Babies need an individual feeding and weaning approach agreed with parents.
POSITIVE, UNHURRIED MEALTIMES
Encourage children to try different tastes and textures without pressure. Start with small portions and offer more when needed. Children should not be made to finish their plate or rewarded for eating everything.
ALLERGIES & DIETARY NEEDS
Tell us about allergies, intolerances, medical diets, cultural or religious requirements before your child starts, and whenever anything changes. Ask for allergen details before choosing meals. An individual plan may be needed.
SAFER EATING
Government guidance says food should be prepared for each child’s age and development to reduce choking risks. Children should sit safely and remain within sight and hearing of staff while eating. Handwashing, safe food storage and preparation are also essential.
